FAQ

Does your Health Coaching require me to follow a restrictive diet?

Not at all! Life is no fun with out cake, so don’t worry, nowadays there is a healthy version of just about everything. We do focus on a whole food, mostly plant-based diet, but restriction never works. I work with you and your tastes to find foods that will not only satisfy you, but are healthy, too.

Believe it or not, once you are on the program, you will no longer crave some of the things you currently do (candy, cookies, Diet Coke…). I’ll introduce you to new foods, and new recipes that make eating healthy easy and enjoyable. So if you’re thinking your going to be stuck with carrot and celery sticks, think again.

What is Health Coaching?

My one-on-one health coaching program provides an integrative approach to bringing out your most attractive, appealing, and desirable self. We truly focus on getting you vibrantly healthy, and then all the other stuff, the weight loss, the glowing skin, the increased energy, es naturally. While nutrition plays a big part of it, this is not a “diet” in the typical sense.

As a holistic practitioner, I know that true health doesn’t only e from what we eat. It is also a reflection of our life, including things like our relationships, how much we exercise, and our stress level. When one of these is off track, it doesn’t matter how much kale you eat, you still won’t be vibrantly healthy. So, I will help guide you towards an all around healthier lifestyle.

Think of the program as providing you with a blueprint for a lifestyle that will keep you happy and healthy, for life.

How quickly will I see results?

That depends on where you’re at when we start, and how you follow and apply your personalized remendations.  An average weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. Most women see results within the first couple of months in the form of a new relationship with food, fewer cravings, better body image, and a drop in at least one dress size.

What is a Health Coach?

A Health Coach is a certified holistic wellness practitioner that looks at an individuals diet and lifestyle and offers remendations in order to improve overall health and happiness. I trained at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where some of my teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willet, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.

My approach is not to dwell on calories, carbs, fats, and proteins or to create a list of good and bad foods.

Instead I work with clients to create a healthy and happy life in a way that is flexible, fun, and rewarding.

What is the difference between a Health Coach and a Nutritionist or Dietician?

While all 3 types of wellness professionals have the same end goal in mind: help their clients get healthier, the methods they go about achieving them are very different. For a dietician or nutritionist the diet of the client is the sole concern and a restrictive diet is usually prescribed as the blanket solution to weight loss or improving overall health based on the calories in equals calories out theory. (which, by the way, has found is not the answer).

A Health Coach, on the other hand, looks at each client individually in a more holistic way to help each individual understand the food and lifestyle choices that work best for them, and how to implement the changes to sustain positive results in health and energy over time. Instead of prescribing one diet or way of exercising, Health Coaches create remendations to fit each client.

Are you an RD?

“People are fed by the food industry which pays no attention to health, and people are treated by the health industry which pays no attention to food.” – Wendell Berry

I researched my options heavily before I decided to bee a Health Coach. It ultimately came down to the fact that I didn’t want my education tainted by the food industry. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) is the organization that sets the curriculum for and certifies RD’s.

Their biggest and most loyal (12 years) sponsor is the National Cattlemen’s Association. Con Agra Foods, Kelloggs, General Mills, and The National Dairy Council are not far behind in their support. The AND has approved Registered Dietitians to take continuing education courses from Coca Cola, PepsiCo, Kraft Foods and Nestle. For more information on the AND and their sponsors, please see this .

With that being said, I do love learning and research, and I understand the importance of higher credentials, so now that I have been educated with a more well-rounded and holistic viewpoint, I am working towards my Masters, and eventually PhD in Human Nutrition.

Why is the program 4-6 months long?

You didn’t bee sick or overweight overnight, and neither will you be able to reverse your issues overnight. The 4 or 6 month program is carefully tailored to each client to ensure results will be long lasting.  Enough time is allowed to figure out the root cause of the client’s issue, as well as monitor the solution long enough to see results. The knowledge you will gain will set you up for a lifetime of healthiness. Once you understand the key concepts to health and incorporate them into your lifestyle, you should be able to improve and maintain your results and health overtime.

If the client wishes to have continued support after the program finishes, it can be extended on a month by month basis.

Do you coach men, too?

Of course! My practice started off with a focus on women, however, once the ladies got healthy, their boyfriends, and husbands wanted in on that, too! I now have a mix of both female and male clients.

For men, we can focus on things like getting the best sources of protein to keep you strong, reducing belly fat, and increasing your energy. Contact me for more info.
